Yep! Luckily it cooled down from the mid-nineties, so I was able to make it to Aikido tonight.
It was, in fact, a really good class. The dojo was very warm, as it hadn't cooled down much from the recent storms, so I soaked another gi. But on the plus side my back rolls are doing really well - for most of the throws that ended with a back roll, I not only fell well but also rolled all the way into seiza. Which is actually good since it then takes less energy to get up again. One of the black belts complemented them, noting they were nicely formed and quiet.
That said we did a series of both-arm grabs. The key to most of them was the backwards and to the side motion - I had to work really hard to remember that just moving back doesn't mean my entire posture has to collapse inwards. Doing that leads to not drawing the uke off balance - keeping the posture static as the backwards motion happens pulls the uke off balance.
Another thing learned is the importance of the wrist - its amazing how many of the throws in Aikido are made either possible or more powerful by simply bending your wrist in the right direction. Really, it all comes down to the little things - master them and you seem to have mastered the move.
That's enough of that, I think. I'll be hitting class again on Thursday.
